Vespera GMT - a True GMT

Vespera GMT - a True GMT

In the first Vespera model, I chose the Miyota 9015 as its heart  – a premium series movement, valued for its accuracy, reliability (and that characteristic “hum”). With the new Vespera GMT, I took it a step further – this time opting for the Miyota 9075 from the same premium series.

Why 9075 instead of NH34?

  • NH34 → so-called caller GMT, you move the GMT hand while the local hour hand stays fixed. Also it requires the operator to avoid setting GMT and date between 9pm and 3am - which is a super inconvenient and easy-to-forget requirement, that can actually damage the date mechanism.
  • Miyota 9075True GMT (traveller GMT) – you can independently set the hour hand. Practical, intuitive, and simply a joy to use.
  • Beat rate: 28,800 bph in the 9075 vs only 21,600 bph in the NH34 → smoother sweep and higher precision.
  • Size: Miyota is significantly slimmer than NH34. It's important if you are trying to keep the watch thickness under control (so it can fit under a motorcycle sleeve more easily).

💡 Why not Swiss?
At Nadir, I focus on function over form. I believe in proven Japanese movements that deliver Swiss-level quality – but at a better price point. While I deeply respect European watchmaking, I prefer to invest in real value for the wearer and keep my watches at a reasonable price level.

💰 Cost vs Value
Most watches with the Miyota 9075 start at 800 EUR. Vespera GMT?649 EUR (due to switch from 904L steel to 316L and a resignation from wooden (oak) boxes, to quality regular boxes that can fit a nice accessory - a leather watch roller and still reduce the price.

And most importantly:
The “jumping” hour hand in a True GMT makes changing time zones not only convenient, but genuinely fun.
